ANET (Friends of Exceptional Children Tarija) is a rehabilitation centre for children with physical and learning disabilities.  The Centre offers medical treatment, therapy and special education programmes for over 900 children. Friends of Bolivia contributes to the running cost of the Centre.

The Instituto Psicopedagocio Ciudad Joven ‘San Juan de Dios’ is a specialist hospital which cares for children and teenagers affected by drug addiction, learning disabilities and mental health issues.

The hospital currently provides treatment for around 270 children and teenagers, and Friends of Bolivia helps by providing funds to cover the medical expenses of some of the patients.

Additional Project – Cardenal Maurer

The “Proyecto Social Cardenal Maurer” runs centres in Yotala, Yampareaez, Tarabuco and Icla in the rural Chuquisaca province of Sucre, where they provide milk formula, clothes and assistance for new mothers.

Plan 3000 is an area of the city of Santa Cruz, in which many of the city’s poorest migrants live.  The Escuelita de Valores Humanos is a school for the poor children of this area, and currently helps 60 children from poor backgrounds.

Friends of Bolivia helps by providing the funds to pay for one balanced meal a day for the children.

Additional Project – La Hormiguita

La Hormiguita is a day care centre for children of single working mothers from impoverished backgrounds.  The centre provides meals and a primary school education for the children while their mothers go to work as domestic help or selling in selling in street markets.

Friends of Bolivia contributes to the running costs of the project when we have funds available.

Additional Project – FAN

Fundacion Amigos de la Naturaleza (FAN) provides medical tools, medication and transport of volunteer doctors to remote areas in the Amazon Basin.  These volunteer doctors provide medical and dental care for 300 indigenous people living in the areas of Paragua and Itenez rivers.

Additional Project – La Orquestra Hombres Nuevos

To celebrate our 20th anniversary Friends of Bolivia held a concert at the Wigmore Hall of Barqoue Music from the Chiquitos region of Bolivia.  The money we raised, £8,000, was sent to “La Orquesta Hombre Nuevos”, a choir and orchestra of poor children and young people in a shanty neighbourhood of Santa Cruz.  The money was used to purchase instruments and music scores and to pay for the salary of their teachers.

Centro de Educación de Adultos por Medios de Comunicación Social, CEAMCOS is a project that provides vocational training for women in the rural areas of Potosi, with the aim of improving the basic sanitary and educational standards within the rural community.

Friends of Bolivia pays the salary of one of these teachers.  The teacher travels to different villages teaching women, who then go back to their communities to pass on the skills and knowledge they have acquired

Cerro Rico de Potosi (“Rich Mountain” of Potosi)

“La Sagrada Familia” is a residential care home for elderly people in Oruro.

Friends of Bolivia provides funds to help pay for medical supplies and food for its residents.  We have also given funds for the change of the mattresses, mattress covers, and bed linen for all the residents.
